The Printed Man

One of my favourite menswear collections of the moment is that of Middlesex University student Yasmin Bawa. Entitled “Lattice”, the collection follows the photographers Huang Qingjun and Ma Hongjie and their empowering series of photographs named "Family Stuff." The project documents 50 family's living within rural China, watching them place all of their possessions from inside their house and placing it outside. Acting as a bizarre microcosm the images show the viewer a perfect glimpse of contemporary China mixing the ancient with the modern. Yasmin's interpretation of the images are seen throughout the collection preserving the historic Chinese elements of traditional lattice artwork and reinforcing this with modern digital prints and lazer cutting techniques. And to think this is just a pre collection! I cannot wait to see what she comes up with for her final honors project.
